E292: Creating a Personal Myth w Special Guest Patrick Christell

E292 Introduction

The topic of myth and narrative, story and mythic imagination is something that I have been fascinated by for decades. My life has been immersed in mythic imagination since I was a boy, really. Even my sports heroes and sports stories I gravitated to and followed as a child had mythic undertones, unbeknownst to me at the time.

And I believe we all long to live by myth. To have our lives have this sort of magical quality to them. I believe that deep down, we all want to live more courageously. Or to follow the path of the Light or the path of the Divine, the path of God, whatever that means to you. Or to really live by our highest spiritual knowing and our highest truth, are you following me?

In short, we were built for more than just work and a few laughs. We’ve just forgotten. A type of mythic amnesia has set in.

It seems the mass consciousness of the human race is looking for these threads right now, doesn’t it? Things seem to be teetering a bit, right? Nobody knows exactly what is going on or what is about to happen. It is times like these where myth is so valuable. By leaning into mythic possibilities, we open up new neuropathways that helps us set a new course in life. Both for ourselves and for our tribe.

Yet, so few reach this point. Why is that? Too many beautiful human Souls coast through life, resting on what has already happened, giving up their sovereignty and ability to set their own course. I believe if more of us were actively engaged in growing our mythic imaginations and living by a personal myth, you would see a lot more courageous people in the world. And God knows, the world NEEDS courageous people right now, doesn’t it?

My guest today is all about building a personal mythic narrative for oneself. I thoroughly enjoyed his company and this conversation. Enjoy.

E193: Fisherman’s Blues

E193 Introduction

Today is a different sort of episode for me, I spoke of it a couple of weeks ago. It’s a short format Firestarter but it is around a musical and mythical theme. As you know myth and activating the mythic imagination is something I highly value as I believe that there are important messages encoded in myth and poetry and certain music.

Activating your mythic imagination has a multi-tiered impact on humans and human consciousness. First off, it connects us to the Divine, however each one of us conceives the Divine. It is from this place that one can properly receive inspiration and instructions. The attuned human becomes a divining rod, a fleet-footed messenger (as they say) of flying metaphors and fleeting imagery that instructs the next generation of adepts as to where the faint trail of the masters is hidden.

Myth and imagination are full of magic, synchronicity, divine inspiration, and a sense of destiny. Humans, if we are to emerge into a new golden age (a renaissance, something I believe is currently unfolding) will need to listen to the whispers of the wind (so to speak) as the noise and distraction and technological wizardry are pushed at us in hopes we can‘t find the signal. But humans are tuned into the signal, aren’t we Basecampers. Yes we are. Yes we are.

So it is with this as a backdrop that I came up with this little creative spark.

This whole idea of setting a short episode to music came from listening to the Waterboys Fisherman’s Blues. The song came on my playlist, a playlist titled All-Time Favorites and I listened as if hearing it for the first time, enchanted.

I started to wonder how this magical little song helped me along the way. Stirring my imagination, giving me medicine for the Hero’s Journey. It kept finding me here and there over the years, affirming my awakening. God smiling at my progress.

One of the things about the song Fisherman’s Blues is it harkens us back to the Grail. Back to the Fisher King, who is waiting for salvation and healing from his wound.

Basecampers, open up your ears and your mythic imagination. I bring you The Waterboys Fisherman‘s Blues.

E127: Up the Mountain with Special Guest Chris Pallis

E127 Introduction

One of our topics on Basecamp is Consciousness, spiritual awakening and inner knowing. These are really the same topic and it is near and dear to me as a Seeker of Truth. If we are all heading towards the same mountaintop, then showing the various ways we move out of our respective “basecamps” can have a unifying and inspiring effect.

There is no one road that is right for each one of us. Yet in our own unique ways, how we choose to live impacts the collective way up. As people find love and light and how to better serve these foundational principles, our strength is fortified. We are, in cosmic terms, a legendary race of beings.

We seem to be on the verge of something. Something that is reflected in both the inner and the outer world. There is an interconnectedness and Truth that is looking for you. It may look like you have been adrift yet here you find yourself…..at the brink of your own spiritual awakening and deep understanding of our place in the cosmos.

Wisdom is your native language. Maybe you have not been in the habit of exploring your inner depths and what you understand but there it is. Your birthright as a human.

We have stated it before and I will say it again. Spiritual awakening is a group effort. We all get there when we all get there and when we get there is NOW. We are an evolving, interconnected, emerging tribe of people that are just now realizing what this is all about.

Metaphorically, people are gathering around the fire to hear the myths and truths that will set us free.
